What is Answer U?

Answer U is the navigation hub at the U, helping students get answers, find resources, and connect to offices on campus. Whenever a student has a question and doesn’t know where to start, they can talk to Answer U first to quickly get the support and information they need. Answer U staff are located in the Marriott Library, but the program will continue to expand to other parts of campus in 2027.

Answer U staff can help students with common and complex questions, including concerns regarding academics, finances, wellness, and more. Students can come to Answer U with specific questions (“How do I get this hold removed?”) or just with general concerns (“I’m overwhelmed and don’t know what to do!”). Either way, Answer U will help by providing information and connecting the student to needed resources.

If you know what office you need to speak with or what actions you need to take, then you do not have to talk with Answer U first. But if you are unsure where to go to get help, Answer U is the best first step to getting answers.

Answer U does not directly replace any other university service or office. Instead, Answer U was developed to help students connect with existing offices more easily.

The U is a large university with excellent campus offices, but trying to navigate those offices and resources on your own is difficult. With Answer U, students have a reliable place to start with any question and don’t have to become experts in university offices in order to access the support they need. Our goal is to ensure students are guided to the right people and services at the right moment—so they can stay focused on their success as students.

Yes! Answer U is based on the U’s NISS report and the Student Experience Project. Many students reported feeling lost or overwhelmed when trying to access support, particularly when their needs required assistance from multiple offices. Answer U helps to simplify the student experience by creating a more connected and accessible support system, so students get the help they need regardless of where they begin.

Answer U is available in person in the Marriott Library, by email, through video calls, over the phone, and via chat. Call us at 801-581-8558, email us at answer-u@lists.utah.edu, book an appointment online, or stop by any of the Marriott Library service desks to talk to an Answer U employee in person.
